Municipality of Ialysos

Ialysos or Trianda as it is sometimes known, was the birth place of Diagoras, the famous Olympic Champion. Colonised first by the Minoans and then by Mycenaean traders, this beautifully sheltered region of northern Rhodes became a great city. The Dorians, who later inhabited Ialysos and dominated the whole of the northern area of Rhodes, created the strongest city-state on the island. The imposing ancient acropolis of Ialysos, situated on Filerimos hill, was later used by both the Byzantines and the Knights of Saint John.

                     

With a rich background of diverse history , the municipality of Ialysos is now a popular cosmopolitan resort. The modern and imposing hotels of Ixia and Trianda greet guest from all over the world for holidays, conferences and business purposes. The area is proud of it's beautiful beaches with organised water sports as well as lavish night-life and entertainment .
